The Romans didn’t have Halloween, they didn't pass out treats to children dressed in costumes they did however have a holiday called October horse to celebrate Mars. Edison Latin club had our own celebration of fall on the 29th of October

October Horse was celebrated on October 15th. October Horse was a ritual to the god Mars. A chariot race would be held in honor of Mars. The winning horse would then be sacrificed to Mars by being speared by the Flamen Martialis, the high priest for the cult of the god of Mars. The head and tail of the horse would be saved. The head would be decorated with ribbon and cakes and then fought over by the people living in the suburbs and the people living in the city. The winning team would get to keep the head and nail the head to the Mamilian Tower or the wall of the Regia.

Latin club had an egg hunt in the courtyard after school and inside the eggs were tasks written in Latin for the students to do. Then we went back inside and did a guess that candy Kahoot, and a google slide show about if the Romans believed in zombies led by one of our presidents.

October is a great month for holidays especially if you are a Latin student
